Spice It Up

The end of “soup month” is fast approaching.  We’ve taken pleasure in dining on soup so much this month.  The weather brought several polar-like days and those hot, steamy, comforting bowls of soup warmed us through and through.  I doubt that any bowl of flavorsome broth warmed us more than this spicy Ancho Pork and Hominy Stew.

The best thing about this bowl of mouth-watering goodness is that it is low-calorie.   Continue reading

Pure Of Heart Soup

“Only the pure of heart can make good soup”, Beethoven.  Interesting quote, don’t you think?  But then again, Beethoven was an interesting character and quite talented at that!

I’m really pleased with todays soup.  Roasted Tomato Bisque.  Pure deliciousness.  It’s made with roasted cherry tomatoes and garlic. Continue reading

Soup’s On

Wow I’ve missed blogging.  Not only have I been incredibly busy the last week or so but when I got a new Mac Mini from my man Dan for Valentines Day my whole world of computers went topsy-turvy.  Actually, it is still topsy-turvy!  The problem is time – there isn’t enough of it.  I need time to set it up and learn how to use it.  Any of you have that problem?  I’m happy to say, ” I’m heading in the right direction”.  I’m totally happy to be writing my first post on my new Mac.  I am familiar with the Mac system but this one is just a bit different.  I am having funny with it!

I’ve not forgotten that it is soup month.   Continue reading

New Mac

I did not make mac n cheese.  I just wanted to let all of you know my adoring hubby gave me a new Mac Mini for Valentines day.  Not particularly romantic but way fun.  I just got it set up yesterday and am still transferring info from my old mac.  I have not fallen out of the blog world but am temporarily floating in it.  I’ve got some fantastic soup recipes to still write about and share with all of you.  Check back soon for some tasty stuff.

BTW, the bees are so incredibly busy with buds popping out on some of our local trees I am anticipating a great honey harvest.  No worries, you’ll hear all about it.

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll be up and running in full force in a day or two.

Enjoy!

A Bowl Of Gumbo

gum*bo

noun
1.  okra, esp. the gelatinous pods used in cooking.
*(in Cajun cooking) a spicy chicken or seafood soup thickened typically with okra or rice.

It is tradition around the Orange Bee to make a big ole’ pot of gumbo for Super Bowl Sunday.  It played into my hands perfectly this year as February has been designated as “soup” month.  Gumbo is a Cajun soup and a delicious, rich, spicy one at that.

Most of you didn’t know my blog existed last year when the Super Bowl rolled around so you probably missed my gumbo post.   Continue reading

Guess What?

We’re having soup for supper.  I changed it up a bit and made a fish chowder.  I wanted a simple, yet delicious bowl of soup.  Still yearning to fill up “Miss T” who is partial to clams, I thought about clam chowder, but finding fresh clams in my part of the universe is not easy. Continue reading

More Soup For Supper

I’m happy to report that “Miss T” is on the road to recovery.  It was touch and go for a while as not only was her mouth achy but being restricted to a soft diet was hampering her energy level.  All the delicious, made with love, pots of soup were not enough to keep up the energy level of a 17-year-old. Continue reading

Soup For Supper

It’s amazing how when you have a family member who is relegated to a “soft” diet for a few days how much soup needs to be simmering on the stove.  Miss T had wisdom teeth extracted on Saturday and was ordered to stick with a soft diet for one week.  Are you kidding me? Continue reading

Good Bye Orange Month

Wow!  How did January 31 get here so fast?  I’ve had so much fun with “orange” month.  I hate to see it go, but am looking forward to moving on to another foodie adventure.  I hope you’ll stick with me and come along.

For my last “orange” post I am going to share a recipe Continue reading

Golden Orange & Chocolate Chip Waffles

“Orange” month is quickly coming to an end.  Charles, over at www.fiveeurofood.com/ Five Euro Food, who I might say posts some enticing photos and recipes, wrote a post about Swedish Waffles.  I commented on how pretty and tasty they looked.  He, later asked me about waffle recipes in America.
